Agartala: Mar 26: Congress legislator Sudip Roy Barman criticized the absence of a principal opposition party in the Tripura Assembly, calling it a “disgrace” for the government. His remarks came in response to the opposition CPI(M)’s decision to boycott the remaining days of the ongoing budget session. According to Barman, the opposition’s boycott highlighted a loss of dignity and pride for the government, particularly in light of the Speaker’s actions on the fourth day of the session.
The CPI(M) has expressed strong dissatisfaction with the Speaker’s role during the session, accusing him of bias. The party has made it clear that this perceived partiality is the main reason behind their decision to protest by boycotting the assembly proceedings. In addition to the Speaker’s conduct, Barman also voiced concern about the internal dynamics of the government. He alleged that the Chief Minister’s authority was no longer respected in the assembly, claiming that ministers and legislators were no longer attentive to the Chief Minister’s guidance, creating an uncomfortable and ineffective atmosphere.
Barman further emphasized that the current situation in the government reflects poorly on the overall functioning of the assembly, suggesting that it has become a place of discord rather than constructive dialogue. The CPI(M)’s boycott and their subsequent accusations of bias have added to the growing tensions between the ruling BJP and the opposition, underlining the challenges faced in maintaining a smooth and cooperative legislative process.
As the opposition parties continue their protest, the government’s ability to address these concerns and restore decorum in the assembly will likely remain a focal point of discussion in the coming days.
