Agartala: Feb 18: In a significant operation, the Agartala Government Railway Police (GRP) and the state police’s crime branch teamed up to arrest a notorious human trafficking broker named Niloy Ahmed, who had been operating out of Bangalore. According to police sources, Ahmed had been facilitating the illegal entry of Bangladeshi nationals into Tripura for an extended period, charging large sums of money for his services. Niloy Ahmed hails from Dhaka’s Jatra Pur district in Bangladesh, and his arrest follows months of investigative work. On Tuesday, he was produced in court, where a judge granted a five-day police remand. Authorities are hopeful that through this interrogation, the names of additional members of the trafficking network will be uncovered.
This joint operation is part of ongoing efforts by the Agartala GRP and other law enforcement agencies to combat human trafficking, which remains a significant concern in the region due to its proximity to the international border. The police believe that Ahmed’s arrest could lead to a breakthrough in dismantling larger trafficking rings operating in Tripura and neighboring areas.
In a separate development, the Agartala GRP police also arrested Khokon Das, a 30-year-old resident of Kaiyadefa Dungirpar in Madhupur. Khokon is suspected to have been involved in human trafficking for a prolonged period. Based on secret intelligence, the joint operation between the GRP, Border Security Force (BSF), and Madhupur police station led to his arrest. Police are currently interrogating Das to gather further details about his involvement in the illicit trade. The authorities are hopeful that both arrests will yield crucial information to curb human trafficking in the region.
