Agartala, February 6: Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha inaugurated the State-Level Teaching Learning Material (TLM) Competition cum Exhibition at Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhavan in Agartala on Thursday.
Organized by the Education Department, the event aims to promote innovative, low-cost teaching materials in schools across the state.
CM Saha, who also serves as the Education Minister, visited the exhibition stalls, where he appreciated the hard work of teachers in creating engaging and effective learning materials.
Addressing the gathering, CM Saha stressed the importance of innovation in teaching methodologies and assured that the Education Department would provide logistical and financial support to teachers for developing better TLMs.
He highlighted the overwhelming participation of more than 7,000 teachers in this year’s competition, which marks a 133% increase from the previous year, owing to the successful training of over 10,000 teachers from 4,227 schools in TLM preparation.
He emphasized that TLMs enhance students’ learning experiences, making concepts easier to understand and retain, and reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to bringing qualitative changes in education.
Saha said that experts from NCERT commended Tripura’s implementation of the NIPUN Mission, particularly the Vidya Setu initiative, which has effectively addressed learning gaps among students from diverse backgrounds.
As part of the NIPUN Mission, the event also highlighted key initiatives such as the training of 10,182 primary teachers by 200 Master Trainers, the establishment of “NIPUN Corners” in schools featuring class-appropriate TLMs, and the distribution of Vidyasetu modules to assist Class-I students in transitioning to school.
Additionally, baseline and endline assessments of Class-II students were conducted to identify literacy and numeracy gaps and track progress.
The exhibition featured over 160 handcrafted TLMs created by teachers from all eight districts of Tripura.
The competition began at the Block level, progressed to the District level, and culminated at the State level, where the best 20 TLMs from each district were selected. Out of these, 10 TLMs were awarded as the best, with five in Literacy and five in Numeracy categories.
Special recognition was given to District Education Officers (DEOs) and Inspectors of Schools for ensuring maximum participation, while Ramkrishna Mission Vidyalaya, Viveknagar, was honored for its excellence in foundational literacy and numeracy research.
The event was attended by Special Secretary Raval Hamendra Kumar, SCERT Director L. Darlong, and School Education Director NC Sharma, among other dignitaries. The state government remains committed to enhancing classroom learning through innovative teaching tools, ensuring better academic outcomes and a brighter future for students in Tripura.
