Agartala: Feb 05:
After a suspension lasting over two months, the Bangladesh Assistant High Commission in Agartala has resumed accepting visa applications as of Wednesday.
This move has been warmly received by numerous individuals eager to visit neighboring Bangladesh for various purposes, including reuniting with relatives.
The suspension of visa and consular services was initiated upon “security situation” on December 3, last year, following a security breach at the mission a day ago.
During a protest against the arrest of Hindu monk Chinmoy Krishna Das in Bangladesh, members of the Hindu Sangharsh Samiti entered the premises of the Assistant High Commission, vandalized property, and removed the Bangladeshi national flag.
In response to the incident, seven individuals were arrested, and three police officers were suspended for alleged negligence in duty.
The Ministry of External Affairs of India termed the breach “deeply regrettable” and emphasized that diplomatic and consular properties should not be targeted under any circumstances.
