Agartala, January 31: With the announcement of the Village Council election dates imminent, the TIPRA Motha party has intensified its political activities, reviving its core demand for a separate tribal state, Greater Tipraland.
On Friday, the tribal-based regional party organized a large bike rally with members from East and West Ratanpur under the Takarjala constituency in Sepahijala district.
The rally was flagged off by local MLA and youth leader Biswajit Kalai, who described it as a show of strength and proof of TIPRA Motha’s continued popularity among the indigenous population.
Speaking to reporters, Kalai dismissed claims that TIPRA Motha had lost its support base to CPI(M) and other parties.
“This bike rally is just a trailer—the real show is yet to come. This is our response to those who say TIPRA Motha is losing ground. Under the leadership of Bubagra Pradyot Kishore Debbarma, we remain committed to achieving Greater Tipraland for the development of indigenous communities,” Kalai asserted.
Kalai also revealed that a TIPRA Motha delegation, led by Pradyot Kishore Debbarma, met the 16th Finance Commission yesterday and submitted a memorandum demanding more powers for the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) through direct funding.
With hundreds of youths participating, the bike rally is seen as a strategic move by TIPRA Motha to put pressure on its ruling alliance partner, the BJP, ahead of the crucial Village Council elections. By reviving its demand for Greater Tipraland and direct funding to the TTAADC, the party is signaling that it will continue to fight for indigenous rights, keeping the pressure on the state government.
