Agartala: Jan 25: The state government has taken several multi-faceted initiatives to promote the state’s tourist destinations on the global stage. With the support of the central government and the Asian Development Bank, steps have been taken to improve the infrastructure of the state’s tourist centers. To boost the tourism industry, former Indian cricket captain Sourav Ganguly has been appointed as the brand ambassador for state tourism. This announcement was made by Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury during the inauguration of the National Tourism Day-2025 celebrations on Saturday. The event was organized by the Tourism Department in collaboration with the Tripura branch of the Indian Building Congress.
The theme for this year’s National Tourism Day is “Tourism for Inclusive Growth.” Minister Chowdhury emphasized that the development of religious tourism and adventure tourism has been a priority in the state’s tourism growth. Key tourist spots such as the Tripurasundari Temple, Jampui Hills, Neermahal, Chabimura, Dumbur, and Unakoti are being promoted globally. He also mentioned that over the last five years, more than 2.6 million tourists, both from within India and abroad, have visited the state, contributing significantly to its tourism revenue. In the past five years, the state has generated revenue of over 31 crore rupees from the tourism sector.
The government’s strategic focus on enhancing infrastructure and promoting unique tourist attractions aims to position Tripura as an emerging destination for both religious and adventure tourism, ensuring inclusive growth in the sector. The state’s efforts are aligned with global tourism trends, highlighting its rich cultural heritage and natural beauty to a wider audience.
