Agartala, January 17: A decomposed body of a young man was discovered in an abandoned house in Purba Gokulnagar’s Bhuiyar Math area, under Bishalgarh police station in Sepahijala district of Tripura, on Friday.
The discovery was made after residents noticed a foul smell coming from the house. Initially suspecting it to be a dead animal, they inspected the site on Friday morning and were shocked to find a decomposed human body.
Police were immediately informed.
Officials from Bishalgarh police station identified the deceased as Badal Chandra Sarkar, 27, son of the late Dhirendra Chandra Sarkar, a resident of the same locality.
An investigating police official said that the body appears to be several days old and is in a highly decomposed state. The exact cause and timing of death will be determined after the postmortem. A forensic team is en route to assist with the investigation.
According to locals, Badal had been struggling with mental health issues since his college years.
Police are continuing their investigation to uncover the circumstances surrounding his death.
