Agartala, January 12: In a significant success in the fight against drug trafficking, Tripura Police seized 1.20 lakh Yaba tablets, valued at approximately ₹1 crore in the illicit market, from a truck carrying cement in the Agartala bypass area on Sunday morning. The operation was based on specific intelligence inputs, said Dr. Kiran Kumar, SP of West Tripura district.
The truck, bearing registration number NL-01-AJ-0403, was intercepted while en route from Meghalaya to Sonamura in Sepahijala district. During the search, the police discovered the Yaba tablets concealed in a hidden chamber within the vehicle.
Two drivers of the truck, identified as Jamal Hussain (43) and Mintu Baman (33), both residents of Bishalgarh in Sepahijala district, were arrested.
“The arrested drivers will be produced before the court with a request for police remand to uncover the drug syndicate’s network,” stated Dr. Kiran Kumar.
The operation was spearheaded by SDPO Sadar Deba Prasad Roy with assistance from officers of East Agartala and West Agartala police stations.
Yaba tablets, often referred to as “crazy pills,” are primarily manufactured in Myanmar and are in high demand in Bangladesh. Tripura, due to its strategic location, is frequently used as a transit route for smuggling these drugs.
