Agartala, December 9: In a significant anti-narcotics operation, Kalamchoura Police Station under Sonamura sub-division in Sepahijala district successfully seized Yaba tablets worth ₹80 lakh and arrested two individuals early Monday morning at the bordering Boxanagar area.
Acting on specific intelligence, police learned that two individuals were attempting to enter Boxanagar through the Veluarchar Naka Point with drugs strapped to their bodies. A team of police personnel immediately set up a trap at the checkpoint.
As the suspects arrived, the police intercepted and conducted thorough checks, recovering approximately 37,800 Yaba tablets hidden on their bodies.
The seized contraband has an estimated market value of ₹80 lakh.
Both drug traffickers were arrested and have been identified as Rafiqul Islam (41) and Kabir Hossain (35).
The operation was led by Officer-in-Charge of Kalamchoura Police Station Naru Gopal Deb, along with Sub-Inspector Supritam Dey and a large TSR team.
This latest success comes on the heels of Kalamchoura police recently destroying large illegal ganja plantations in the bordering forest areas, underscoring their continued efforts to combat the drug menace in Tripura’s border regions.
Sonamura subdivision’s border areas have long been exploited as a corridor for the illegal drug trade. Despite attempts by smugglers to evade law enforcement through innovative methods, such operations highlight the vigilance and commitment of the police in curbing narcotics trafficking.
