Agartala: Dec 05: GB Hospital has made significant strides in its Neurology department, now offering various complex treatments and surgeries. Neurosurgeon Dr. Sidharth Reddy highlighted these advancements during a press conference on Thursday. Dr. Abir Lal Nath, a physician in the Neurology department, shared that the hospital has successfully performed 400 angiographies, a procedure crucial for patients with recurring heart disease. Additionally, the hospital has completed 26 to 28 coiling procedures in the past year, further enhancing its neurological treatment capabilities. All these services are available to patients through the Ayushman Kadir scheme, ensuring wider access to necessary care.
However, despite these improvements, the hospital is facing challenges in managing its ICU capacity. Dr. Shankar Chakraborty, the Medical Superintendent of GB Hospital, acknowledged a shortage of ICU beds, which is impacting patient care. He explained that the hospital is struggling to meet the demands of critical patients, and while efforts are being made to address the bed shortage by December, long-term solutions are still being explored.
There have been ongoing concerns about the hospital’s ability to handle critical cases due to the limited ICU space. Allegations have surfaced about patient deaths linked to this issue, and many critically ill patients have reportedly been unable to receive timely care in the ICU. These challenges underline the urgent need for the hospital to expand its ICU facilities to accommodate the growing number of patients requiring intensive care. Despite these difficulties, the hospital continues to make progress in its specialized treatments, improving the overall healthcare services available to the community.
