Agartala: Nov 29: Tripura is grappling with a growing drug trafficking crisis, as drug smugglers exploit weaknesses in police intelligence to continue their illegal operations. Luxury cars are increasingly being used to transport drugs across the state, making it a challenge for law enforcement. However, the Melaghar police recently achieved a significant breakthrough in their fight against drug trafficking.
Early on Friday morning, acting on a tip-off, the Melaghar police set up an ambush in the Indiranagar area, suspecting that drugs were being smuggled in a luxury car. When the vehicle approached, the driver attempted to flee by ramming into the police car, but lost control and crashed into a nearby house. The driver managed to escape on foot, but the police quickly arrested a man named Didar Hossain, who was found inside the vehicle.
Upon searching the car, authorities recovered a staggering 260,000 Yaba tablets, a potent drug. The black market value of the seized drugs is estimated to be around 3 crore rupees. Additional Superintendent of Police Rajib Sutradhar, from Sipahijala district, arrived at the scene to oversee the investigation. A case has been filed against Didar Hossain at the Melaghar police station, and the investigation is ongoing.
Hossain, a resident of the Kulubari area in Sonamura sub-division, was arrested in connection with the drug haul. While this successful raid marks a significant victory for the Melaghar police, drug trafficking remains a persistent issue in the state, with smugglers continuing to move illicit substances throughout Tripura. The authorities now face the challenge of identifying and apprehending the main masterminds behind these criminal networks.
