Agartala: Nov 28: At a recent event in Agartala, Tripura’s Minister of Fisheries and Animal Husbandry Development, Sudhanshu Das, expressed his deep concern over the worsening humanitarian crisis in Bangladesh. During a ceremony at the Sukant Academy Auditorium, where benefits were distributed to fish farmers in West Tripura district under various schemes, Das strongly criticized the Bangladesh government, accusing it of creating a “horrific situation” that he claimed has “defeated humanity and directly killed human values.”
Das went on to allege that extremist groups, including Al-Qaeda, are now operating in Bangladesh, disguising themselves as peacemakers. He further asserted that peaceful individuals, such as ISKCON’s Chinmaya Maharaj and other religious monks, have been subjected to physical abuse and imprisonment, painting a grim picture of the state’s current condition. The minister’s remarks highlighted the severe deterioration of the political and social environment in Bangladesh, which he described as being in crisis.
His statements reflect a broader concern about the human rights situation in Bangladesh, which has been facing significant political unrest, repression of minorities, and violence. The situation has drawn international attention, with calls for greater protection of religious and political freedoms.
The event in Agartala was also attended by several local dignitaries, including Agartala Municipal Corporation Mayor and MLA Deepak Majumdar, MLA Mina Rani Sarkar, and West Tripura Zilla Parishad Chairperson Balai Goswami, who also expressed solidarity with the plight of Bangladesh’s marginalized communities. Minister Das’s comments further underscore the tension in the region, with a call for greater international awareness and intervention to address the humanitarian crisis unfolding in Bangladesh.
