Agartala: Nov 26: The surrendered members of the DRMC (District Rural Management Committee) expressed strong dissatisfaction with the government’s failure to fulfill the promises made by former Tribal Welfare Minister Rampada Jamatia over two and a half years ago. During a press conference held at the Agartala Press Club on Tuesday, Amrit Riang, the general secretary of the DRMC, voiced their frustration and resentment against the government’s inaction.
Reang reminded the media of the meeting held on June 13, 2022, with Rampada Jamatia, in which the then-minister assured the DRMC that their nine-point demand would be met. The meeting, attended by the state’s chief secretary, the secretary of the Tribal Welfare department, and other officials, resulted in promises to address crucial issues facing the surrendered families. These demands included providing each surrendered family with a house under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, offering power tillers for agricultural work, establishing rubber plantations for 1,000 families, facilitating education for the children of surrendered members, and withdrawing cases filed against them in various police stations.
However, two and a half years later, none of these promises have been fulfilled, leaving the surrendered members in a state of deep frustration. Through the press conference, the DRMC demanded that the government immediately address these issues. The organization has issued a warning that if their demands are not met, they will launch a larger movement starting in January or February next year.
The DRMC’s grievances highlight the unfulfilled commitments made by the government, and their resolve to escalate their protests if no action is taken to resolve the issues affecting the surrendered families.
