Agartala, October 28: Members of the Tripura Pradesh Congress Sadar district committee organized a protest outside the Tripura Cricket Association (TCA) headquarters, accusing the association of prioritizing political affiliations over talent and fostering corruption under BJP influence.
Demonstrators, led by Congress youth leader Amir Hossain, claimed that under current leadership, TCA had become a “Tripura Corruption Association.”
The protestors demanded the removal of TCA’s president and secretary asserting that their selection processes excluded talented players for politically favored candidates.
Hossain, also a Congress spokesperson, argued that this favourism has negatively impacted the performance of Tripura’s cricket teams as talened crickets are not getting slection rather on the basis of political identity selection is done which resulting in poor performance in matches.
During the rally, Congress members called for an electoral reform in TCA’s leadership selection to allow broader participation and avoid political interference.
They also condemned a recent incident in which a senior player, once instrumental in past successes of the Tripura Ranji team, was allegedly disrespected by TCA officials, further straining the association’s reputation.
This protest highlights ongoing dissatisfaction among opposition parties in Tripura with alleged BJP influence across local institutions.
Congress’s actions reflect growing calls for transparency and merit-based selections within sports associations to improve Tripura’s sporting future.
