Agartala: Oct 04: The state and central governments have not announced any relief package for the flood victims in Tripura. Instead, a package has been announced for individuals who have surrendered after obstructing state development and engaging in terrorist activities. This has led to demands from the opposition for immediate financial aid and housing for flood-affected residents and those displaced by extremist activities.
State Congress President Ashish Kumar Saha voiced these concerns during a press conference at the state Congress Bhavan on Friday. He highlighted that over half of Tripura has been severely impacted by recent floods, resulting in 37 deaths and affecting 20 lakh people. Despite the significant damage, no substantial financial assistance has been provided by the state or central government for the flood victims. Instead, a package has been allocated for surrendered militants, raising questions about the government’s priorities.
Saha called for a separate package for those displaced by extremist activities, including financial aid and housing. He also criticized the state government’s claim that the central government has allocated 40 crore rupees for flood relief, stating that this amount is part of the annual natural disaster fund and does not represent additional support for the current crisis.
During the press conference, 39 individuals from Tipra Motha and BJP joined the Congress, welcomed by the state president with party flags. Other notable attendees included state Congress spokesperson Pravir Chakraborty and Bilonia district Congress president Mridul Party.
