Agartala: Sept 04: A landmark peace agreement was signed today between the Government of India, the Government of Tripura, the National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT), and the All Tripura Tiger Force (ATTF) in the presence of Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
The Union Home Minister announced a financial package of Rs 250 crore for 328 militants who will surrender their arms as per the peace accord.
Shah asserted that the peace agreement will completely end the insurgent movement in Tripura, claiming it as a “milestone”. He stated that the 35-year-long armed struggle has come to an end.
The financial package of Rs 250 crore will help the 328 militants to rejoin mainstream life and contribute to the development and progress of Tripura.
Shah mentioned that a total of 12 peace agreements have been signed so far in the North Eastern region, with around 10,000 militants surrendering their arms to rejoin mainstream life.
The successful implementation of these agreements has saved thousands of lives, including insurgents, security personnel, and innocent civilians.
Tripura Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah for creating an atmosphere of peace in the entire North Eastern region.
NLFT leader Upendra Reang expressed hope that the Government of India will keep its promise and implement the financial package for the welfare of the Tiprasa people.
A delegation of 10 members of NLFT and ATTF, including NLFT (BM) Group Chief Vishwa Mohan Debbarman and ATTF’s Alindra Reang, were present at the signing ceremony. Other prominent leaders, including NE Adviser to Government of India AK Mishra, MP Biplab Kumar Dev, and former Tipra Matha supremo Pradyot Kishore Debbarman, also attended the event.
