Agartala: August 17: Chief Minister Manik Saha emphasized the importance of identifying the sources of HIV infection and AIDS in the state and implementing extensive public awareness and precautionary measures. On Saturday, he launched an intensified information, education, and communication campaign at the Secretariat. This campaign, organized by the Tripura State AIDS Control Society, will continue for the next two months.
Earlier, Chief Minister Saha held a review meeting on AIDS at the Secretariat. During the meeting, he highlighted that public awareness is crucial in controlling the spread of AIDS. He stressed the need to educate school and college students about the dangers of the disease and urged school teachers to help prevent HIV infection by addressing drug addiction.
The Chief Minister also announced that drug rehabilitation centers have been approved in eight districts of the state, with a modern facility to be established in Savanthganj. He emphasized the importance of increased screening and regular observation of AIDS patients to ensure effective treatment.
Chief Minister Saha noted that Sikkim has the lowest number of AIDS patients among the North Eastern states and called for efforts to reduce the rate further in Tripura.
