Agartala, August 13: Two days ahead of India’s 78th Independence Day, Agartala came alive with a vibrant tricolour rally on Tuesday, with hundreds of participants from various walks of life joining the march, proudly displaying the Indian national flag.
The rally, which began at the Umakanta Mini Stadium, saw enthusiastic participation from students, teachers, intellectuals, security personnel, politicians, businessmen, administrators, members of clubs and social organizations.
The streets of the capital city were awash with patriotism as the rally passed through, promoting the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ initiative, which encourages citizens to hoist the national flag at their homes, workplaces, etc during the Independence Day celebrations.
Among the prominent figures leading the rally were Chief Minister Manik Saha, Agartala Mayor and MLA Dipak Majumder, former MLA Mimi Majumder, BJP state president Rajib Bhattacharjee, and several other well-known personalities.
Their participation highlighted the importance of the rally in uniting people across the state in a shared sense of national pride.
Chief Minister Saha expressed his gratitude to everyone who took part in the rally, which was organized by the state government’s Sports and Youth Affairs department.
He added that the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign was first introduced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2022 as part of the ‘nation first’ initiative.
The campaign aims to encourage citizens to pay tribute to those who sacrificed their lives for the nation while fostering a deep sense of patriotism.
The Chief Minister also mentioned that similar rallies were organized in all districts and subdivisions across the state. These efforts are intended to help the new generation understand the true meaning of Independence and appreciate the struggles and sacrifices made during India’s long fight for freedom from British rule.
The ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign, launched under the aegis of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav in 2022, has since evolved into a nationwide movement embraced by diverse segments of society.
According to the Ministry of Culture, in 2022, the national flag was hoisted at more than 23 crore homes, and 6 crore people uploaded their selfies with the flag on harghartiranga.com.
In 2023, the campaign saw over 10 crore selfies uploaded, reflecting the growing enthusiasm and participation across the country.
