Agartala: August 09: On Wednesday, the Congress party in Tripura organized a program to commemorate the Quit India Movement, which was launched on August 9th by Mahatma Gandhi. The event took place at Gandhi Ghat and saw the participation of prominent Congress leaders, including state president Ashish Kumar Saha, MLA Gopal Chandra Roy, and former state president Piyush Kanti Biswas.
During the program, the state Congress president paid tribute to the martyrs at Gandhi Ghat. He highlighted the significance of August 9th, when Mahatma Gandhi called for the Quit India Movement, sparking a nationwide struggle against British rule. He noted that people from various walks of life, including farmers, workers, and youth, united to fight against colonial oppression.
The state Congress president also expressed concerns about the current state of affairs in the country. He emphasized the need to recommit to the values of democracy, constitution, heritage, unity, and culture, and to protect the nation from divisive forces.
