Agartala, April 3:
Postal ballot voting for government employees, including security personnel deployed on election duty, commenced on Friday for the upcoming by-election to the 56 Dharmanagar Assembly constituency in North Tripura district.
The voting process is being conducted at Bir Bikram Institution in Dharmanagar town and will continue until April 4.
Officials those casted their votes reported that polling has remained peaceful since the start of voting earlier in the day.
The by-election is scheduled to be held on April 9, necessitated by the demise of sitting BJP MLA Biswabandhu Sen in December last year.
Sen was serving as the Speaker of the Tripura Legislative Assembly at the time of his death.
The electoral contest is expected to be triangular, with the ruling BJP facing separate challenges from the CPI(M) and the Congress, both of which have fielded their own candidates.
