Agartala, April 3:
Christians across Tripura on Friday observed Good Friday with solemn prayers, processions, and reflections, commemorating the crucifixion and sacrifice of Jesus Christ for the salvation of humanity.
In Agartala, a large number of devotees gathered at Don Bosco Church to participate in the traditional ‘Way of the Cross’ ritual, symbolically retracing Christ’s journey to Calvary.
The faithful, many carrying a large wooden cross, took part in the procession as an expression of devotion and to spiritually share in the suffering endured by Christ during his crucifixion.
The ritual was led by Fr. Joseph Pulinthanath, Director of the Don Bosco Peace Centre, along with other clergy members.
The ceremony drew participation from a wide cross-section of the Christian community, who offered prayers for universal peace and prosperity.
Speaking to reporters, Fr. Pulinthanath said that Good Friday, observed globally, marks the crucifixion of Jesus Christ and his ultimate sacrifice for mankind.
He noted that the day holds profound significance as it forms the foundation of Christian faith, with believers holding that Christ’s suffering and death symbolised victory over sin and evil, bringing hope, redemption, and peace to humanity.
Highlighting contemporary global challenges, he said special prayers were offered for peace and stability, particularly in light of ongoing conflicts in regions such as the Middle East.
“The faithful are praying for harmony to prevail across the world,” he added.
Good Friday, observed on the Friday preceding Easter, is marked by fasting, prayer, and reflection. Despite commemorating the day of Christ’s crucifixion, it is termed ‘Good’ to signify the profound act of sacrifice made for the welfare of humanity.
The observance also underscores the enduring message of love, tolerance, and compassion preached by Jesus Christ—values that continue to hold relevance in today’s world amid growing divisions and conflicts.
