Agartala, February 13:
Tripura government’s spokesperson and Transport, Food and Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury on Friday welcomed the formation of a new government in neighbouring Bangladesh, expressing hope that the restoration of political stability and democracy there would significantly strengthen bilateral ties and boost trade and commerce, particularly for border areas of Tripura, which shares an 855-km international border with the country on three sides.
Addressing a press conference at the state secretariat, Chowdhury said the Prime Minister had congratulated the leader of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) for moving towards forming a government with a clear mandate and conveyed his best wishes, expressing confidence that the electoral victory would further deepen India–Bangladesh relations in trade, commerce and overall cooperation.
He noted that Bangladesh had faced a challenging political situation over the past year and a half and said the recent election was crucial for restoring democracy through people’s participation and mandate.
As a neighbouring state closely linked socially and economically with Bangladesh, Tripura wants instability to end and development-oriented politics to resume so that cross-border activities can regain momentum, he said, adding that areas such as Sabroom and other border regions have strong potential for trade which had slowed during the period of uncertainty.
Emphasising the long-standing friendship and emotional bond between the two nations, the Minister said the newly elected BNP government should move forward by setting aside differences and building a fresh, friendly relationship with India to further strengthen cooperation.
Chowdhury also informed that several key decisions were taken at the cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Manik Saha on Thursday evening, including approval for large-scale recruitment across departments.
He said 110 Veterinary Officers will be appointed under the Animal Resources Development Department, 100 personnel including Multi-Purpose Workers will be recruited in the Health and Family Welfare Department, and 220 personnel will be engaged in the IT Department under the newly introduced Information Technology Services, few more recruitments in other departments taking the total number of approved posts to 345.
The decisions, he added, aim to strengthen public service delivery while creating employment opportunities in the state.
