Agartala, February 6:
In a major anti-drug operation, police seized 500 bottles of contraband cough syrup and arrested two persons during a raid at Aralia area, in the outskirts of Agartala as part of the ongoing drive against narcotics trafficking in Tripura.
Speaking to reporters on Friday, Inspector Subrata Debnath, Officer-in-Charge of East Agartala police station said the action was carried out based on specific intelligence inputs about the illegal storage of narcotic substances inside a residential house.
“Yesterday evening, we received information that a huge quantity of narcotic substances had been concealed inside a house at Aralia. After receiving the input, I immediately alerted all other police personnel, and we rushed to the spot,” Debnath said.
The police team swiftly cordoned off the house and launched a search operation. During the search, officers recovered three sacks containing bottles of banned ESkuf cough syrup.
“We recovered 500 bottles of ESkuf cough syrup from the house and seized all of them. Two persons were detained and later arrested,” he added.
The arrested individuals have been identified as the house owner, Subash Chandra Das, and Samir Chakraborty, a resident of 79 Tilla area. Police also seized two mobile phones from their possession to aid the investigation.
A specific case has been registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
Inspector Debnath said both accused will be produced before the court, and police will seek seven days’ remand to interrogate them and trace the larger supply network.
“Our objective is to conduct a thorough investigation and bust the entire chain and racket involved in this case,” he said.
Tripura Police have intensified anti-drug operations in recent months, stepping up surveillance and raids to curb the smuggling and distribution of narcotics across the state.
