Agartala, January 25:
In a major push to strengthen tourism and generate employment in Tripura, Union Minister of Communications and Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) Jyotiraditya M. Scindia on Saturday launched the ambitious Matabari Tourism Circuit at Narikel Kunja in Dhalai district.
The launch programme was attended by Tripura’s Minister of Tourism Shri Sushanta Chowdhury, MLA Nandita Debbarma Reang, and several other dignitaries.
Addressing the gathering, the Union Minister said the initiative aims to unlock Tripura’s vast tourism potential while empowering local communities through employment generation and livelihood opportunities.
The Matabari Tourism Circuit, with an estimated investment of around ₹450 crore, is expected to emerge as a major attraction by integrating religious, eco, and cultural tourism in the region.
As part of the visit, Scindia, accompanied by Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury, also took a speedboat ride in Dumbur Lake, one of Tripura’s most scenic water bodies.
The leaders further inspected several islands within the lake to explore possibilities for future tourism development.
The project is expected to not only enhance tourist inflow but also promote local culture, improve infrastructure, and create sustainable employment opportunities for youths and local entrepreneurs.
The Matabari Tourism Circuit is being envisioned as a transformative initiative that aligns with the broader goal of positioning Tripura as a prominent tourism destination in the Northeast.
