Agartala, January 12:
A major road accident occurred in Tripura’s Dhalai district on Monday when a passenger bus travelling from Agartala to Kailashahar met with a serious mishap, leaving more than 20 passengers injured.
According to reports, the bus bearing registration number TR-01C-1481 lost control while negotiating a sharp turn after crossing Saika Bazar area on National Highway-208 and plunged into a deep gorge.
The accident caused panic among passengers, with nearly twenty people sustaining injuries in the incident.
Among the injured, the bus contractor Uttam Dasgupta and driver Chandan Roy were stated to be critically injured.
Five passengers with serious injuries were referred to the Dhalai District Hospital at Kulai for advanced treatment.
Fire and Emergency Services personnel along with ambulances rushed to the spot and carried out rescue operations.
The driver remained trapped inside the bus for a considerable time before being rescued and shifted to hospital.
Injured passengers informed that the speeding vehicle at a sharp turn met with the accident.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, in a social media post, said he was aware of the bus accident that occurred at Saika Bari under Kamalpur.
Saha informed that the bus was carrying a total of 32 passengers at the time of the accident. Of the injured, 11 were admitted to the local sub-divisional hospital, five to Dhalai District Hospital, and two to the Fatikroy Primary Health Centre.
The Chief Minister wished a speedy recovery to all the injured and assured that the administration is fully alert and taking all necessary steps to manage the situation.
