Agartala: Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha today said that the Health Department is working towards making Tripura a healthy, conscious, and welfare-oriented state.
Dr. Saha said that the Mukhyamantri Niramay Arogya Abhiyan has been launched with the aim of ensuring affordable, quality, and timely health services for people from all walks of life in the state.
He added that this campaign is a far-reaching and strong step by the state government.
Dr. Saha said this after inaugurating the state-level Mukhyamantri Niramay Arogya Abhiyan at Pragna Bhavan today.
The campaign was launched by the state health department and the Tripura National Health Mission. Alongside this, an AI-based pilot training module on tuberculosis was also launched.
Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister said that today is a significant day for the state health department. A new feather has been added to the department’s work.
“Non-communicable diseases are now a hot topic all over the world. Currently, about 65 percent of people in India are suffering from non-communicable diseases. If detected late, the risk of complications increases. This is why early detection is essential. It has been observed that non-communicable diseases such as high blood pressure, diabetes, heart disease, and various types of cancer have become a big problem among people above 30 years of age. In many cases, these diseases are not detected in the early stages and later become serious. In this situation, this preventive and people-oriented initiative has been taken to create awareness among citizens, identify diseases, and bring patients under treatment,” he said.
Dr. Saha, who is also the Health Minister of the state, said that only a healthy person can contribute to building a healthy society.
“Awareness and a disciplined lifestyle are needed to keep oneself healthy. The current government of the state is also trying to provide timely health services to the citizens. Keeping this goal in mind, new health services are being launched,” he said.
The Chief Minister said that 6 lakh 80 thousand people were screened for diabetes and high blood pressure in the state last year. Out of these, 25,259 people were diagnosed with diabetes and 49,153 people were diagnosed with high blood pressure. Additionally, 5.28 lakh women were screened for breast cancer, and 1 lakh women for cervical cancer.
“Those who were diagnosed with the disease were brought under treatment and kept under regular follow-up. Considering this urgent need, this campaign has been launched within a specific time frame and in mission mode. Screening, treatment, and regular follow-up programs for non-communicable diseases will be carried out through this campaign,” he said.
Today, the launch of the AI-based pilot training module related to tuberculosis reflects the adoption of modern medical treatment in the state. In this context, the Chief Minister said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has also emphasized human welfare through the use of technology. Keeping that vision in mind, the present government of the state is adopting new approaches.
The Chief Minister further said that all levels of health department staff will have to play a responsible role in taking these programs to the peak of success.
Health Department Secretary Kiran Gitte, Tripura National Health Mission Director Saju Wahid, Health Director Dr. Debashree Debbarma, Disease Prevention Department Director Dr. Anjan Das, and Medical Education Department Director Dr. H. P. Sharma were also present.
