Agartala, Dec 25: Joining millions of Christians across the globe, hundreds of faithful in Tripura came together on Tuesday night at the Don Bosco Church in Nandannagar, on the outskirts of Agartala, to observe the Christmas Eve Midnight Mass with devotion, prayers and hymns celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ.
The special midnight service was marked by an atmosphere of spirituality and festivity as devotees offered prayers for world peace, harmony in Tripura and stability in the region, including neighbouring countries. Church priests emphasised that the birth of Jesus Christ symbolises peace, love, compassion and hope for humanity, values that remain relevant in today’s troubled times.
Despite dense fog enveloping the area, the church premises resonated with Christmas carols from the evening onwards. The midnight mass featured special prayers, scripture readings and musical programmes performed by church choirs, adding to the solemn yet joyous mood of the celebrations. A large number of youths, families and elderly devotees attended the service, while several people staying away from their homes also joined in to celebrate the occasion with the church community.
Speaking on the occasion, a priest highlighted that Jesus Christ came into the world to spread peace, unity and love among all people, irrespective of faith or background. He urged the faithful to carry forward these teachings in their daily lives and work towards building a more compassionate and harmonious society.
The service was also attended by Bishop Lumen Monteiro of the Agartala Diocese, which covers the entire state of Tripura. His presence added significance to the celebrations, as he blessed the congregation and conveyed Christmas greetings.
Apart from members of the Christian community, people from other faiths also took part in the festive spirit across the city and nearby areas. Many homes were decorated with colourful lights, stars and Christmas trees, reflecting the spirit of communal harmony and togetherness traditionally associated with the festival of Christmas.
