Police once again seized a huge quantity of dry cannabis from the Ambassa naka checkpoint in Dhalai district of Tripura.
On Saturday, while a vehicle was heading from Agartala towards Assam, police conducted a search at the naka checkpoint located at Betbagan, Ambassa, and recovered around 150 kg of dry cannabis packed in 79 packets from a vehicle bearing registration number TR01 AP 1631.
According Sub Inspector Joy Thapa, the estimated black market value of the seized cannabis is around ₹15 lakh.
He added that during the search operation, the driver of the vehicle managed to flee from the spot by evading the police. However, the vehicle was seized and the contraband confiscated.
A case has been registered under the NDPS Act at Ambassa police station in connection with the incident.
Police have launched an investigation to identify and trace the absconding driver and other members of the drug trafficking racket involved in the case. The incident has created a sensation in the area.
