Agartala, December 6:
Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury on Saturday conducted an inspection of the proposed site at Sachindranagar Colony in Jirania, where the state government plans to develop a state-of-the-art Eco-Tourism, Adventure Tourism and Water Park. The project is envisioned as one of Tripura’s most ambitious tourism initiatives aimed at transforming the region into a major attraction for visitors.
The minister was accompanied by Tourism Secretary Uttam Kumar Chakma, Tourism Director Prashant Badal Negi, renowned social worker Ranjit Roy Choudhury and local representatives during the field visit. The team reviewed the land identified for the project and discussed key components required for its timely execution.
Speaking at the site, Minister Chowdhury highlighted the significance of tourism in Tripura’s development journey. He said the new project aligns with the government’s broader vision of building an Atmanirbhar and developed Tripura. “Tourism plays a unique role in shaping Tripura’s economic growth. To place Tripura’s tourism industry on the world map, create employment opportunities for unemployed youth, and make the state more attractive to domestic and international tourists, this park will be constructed in the model of Kolkata’s Nicco Park,” he said.
He added that Saturday’s inspection was aimed at expediting the preparatory process with the goal of commencing construction work at the earliest. The project is expected to include eco-friendly tourism components, adventure activities and modern water-based entertainment facilities to cater to families, youth and travellers.
Officials present during the visit noted that the proposed park reflects the state government’s commitment to leveraging tourism as a key driver of socio-economic development. By blending eco-tourism with adventure and leisure attractions, Tripura hopes to diversify its tourism portfolio and strengthen its identity as a vibrant destination in the Northeast.
The initiative is also expected to generate local employment, support community-led tourism and enhance the overall tourism infrastructure in Jirania and neighbouring areas.
