Agartala, Oct 17:
A dramatic incident unfolded at the **Bishalgarh Court** on Friday when an accused in police custody made a desperate attempt to **escape from the court premises**, resulting in a **lawyer sustaining serious injuries** while bravely intervening to stop him.
According to police sources, the accused, identified as **Russell Miah**, was brought before the Bishalgarh Court in connection with **Case No. 82/2025**, registered at the **Bishalgarh Police Station**. As police were escorting him towards the courtroom, Russell allegedly **took advantage of a lapse in police vigilance** and suddenly **bolted towards the exit** in an attempt to flee.
In a spontaneous act of courage, **advocate Maran Rishi Das**, who was present at the court premises, stepped in to **block the accused’s escape route**. During the ensuing scuffle, Das **sustained serious injuries** to his **leg and hand**. He was immediately provided first aid at the court complex and later shifted to a nearby hospital for further medical treatment.
Speaking to reporters, advocate **Rishi Das** recounted the ordeal: “I have suffered fractures on my leg and minor injuries on my hands. But I am content that I could assist the police in stopping the accused. Had he managed to escape, it would have been a major lapse.”
Police officers quickly re-apprehended the accused and restored order in the court premises. Authorities have since initiated an **internal inquiry** into the incident to determine whether **procedural lapses** or **negligence by escorting personnel** contributed to the escape attempt.
The incident has sparked discussion among legal professionals and law enforcement officials, many of whom have praised advocate Das for his **presence of mind and bravery**, calling it a rare example of civic responsibility within the courtroom.
