Agartala, Sep 21 — With Durga Puja approaching, Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president Ashish Kumar Saha has written to Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha demanding immediate action on pending MGNREGA wage payments and provision of at least 10 days of alternative employment for rural poor through other government departments.
In his letter, sent on Sunday, the Congress leader reminded the Chief Minister of a memorandum submitted by a party delegation on September 6, 2025, which had flagged pressing socio-economic issues. He reiterated that the delay in clearing MGNREGA dues has left thousands of rural households in acute distress, especially with rising prices of essential commodities compounding their hardships.
Saha stressed that ensuring timely payments and work opportunities before the festival season is crucial not only for rural labourers but also for small traders and daily wage earners whose livelihoods are directly linked to village economies. “Clearing the dues and providing employment will ensure the underprivileged can celebrate the festival with dignity,” he wrote.
The TPCC president also expressed frustration that despite repeated appeals, including district-level submissions on September 15, 2025, no concrete measures have been taken by the state government. He warned that inaction would further alienate the rural poor and diminish the festive spirit in villages across Tripura.
Calling for urgent intervention, Saha urged the Chief Minister to direct relevant departments to expedite MGNREGA wage disbursal and make provisions for short-term employment schemes. He argued that such steps would provide immediate relief to struggling families and help stabilise rural markets ahead of the state’s biggest cultural festival.
The Congress leader concluded his letter with an appeal to the government to “act with sensitivity and urgency” so that the most vulnerable sections of society are not left behind during the festive season.
