Agartala, September 6:
With Durga Puja, the biggest festival of Tripura, just weeks away, the state administration and Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) have accelerated efforts to improve road conditions and ease traffic congestion across the capital city. Many stretches have been badly damaged due to ongoing developmental works, including stormwater management and covered drains.
On Saturday, Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha chaired a high-level meeting to review the city’s traffic situation. The meeting was attended by Chief Secretary Jitendra Kumar Sinha, DGP Anurag, Secretaries Abhishek Singh and Kiran Gitte, West District Magistrate Dr. Vishal Kumar, Traffic SP Kanta Jangir, West District SP Namit Pathak, and other senior officials.
The Chief Minister stressed the urgent need to make Agartala traffic-free and revive the road condition damaged due to various developmental works and for free movement of pedestrians ahead of Durga Puja so that festival-goers can enjoy pandal-hopping without hindrance.
Meanwhile, Agartala Mayor and MLA Dipak Majumder visited several project sites along with senior officials for on-the-spot verification.
During his interactions with councilors and local residents, he assured that all construction agencies have been instructed to take measures to prevent disruptions during the festival. “The executive engineer has been directed to complete the ongoing work before Puja and not to start any new work at this moment,” he told reporters.
Currently, the Agartala Smart City Limited is executing projects worth over ₹844 crore, focusing primarily on stormwater drains and road development. Of the total 46 km of drain construction planned, 31 km has already been completed. Work on 23 km of roads is also underway, with officials aiming to finish the bulk of it before the Puja season.
