Agartala, September 1:
The Tripura unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday staged a massive protest rally in Agartala condemning the alleged use of abusive language against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his late mother during a Congress-RJD programme in Bihar’s Darbhanga.
BJP leaders accused the Congress of lowering the dignity of political discourse and demanded an apology from senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi.
The rally, led by BJP state president and MP Rajib Bhattacharjee, saw the participation of several cabinet ministers including Sushanta Chowdhury, Sudhangshu Das, Bikash Debbarma, and Santana Chakma, along with senior office bearers of the party.
Starting from Maharani Tulsibati School, the rally moved through the streets of the state capital with participants raising slogans against Congress leadership.
The protest culminated in front of the Post Office and Congress Bhavan where a large contingent of security forces was deployed to prevent any untoward incident.
The protesters also criticized the CPI(M), alleging that similar to the Congress, the Left party has been engaged in spreading propaganda against the BJP in Tripura.
The controversy stems from a recent Congress-RJD event in Darbhanga, Bihar, where a speaker allegedly used derogatory remarks against Prime Minister Modi and his late mother. The remarks have triggered strong reactions from BJP units across the country, with Tripura joining the chorus of protests demanding accountability from Congress leadership.
