Agartala, August 29:
A 60-year-old man was killed in a fatal road accident on Friday in Jirania Sub-Division under West Tripura district after his bike collided head-on with a speeding oil tanker, police said.
The deceased has been identified as Bijan Deb, a resident of the area. Sub-Inspector Bappa Mitra, the investigating officer of the case, informed that the accident occurred at Jirania Bashcobra on the national highway when the oil tanker, coming from the Agartala side, rammed into Deb’s bike. The impact caused severe head injuries, leading to his immediate death.
Firefighters rushed to the spot and shifted Deb to Jirania Community Health Centre, where doctors declared him brought dead.
Police later shifted the body to GBP Hospital for post-mortem examination.
The oil tanker, registered in neighbouring Assam, along with its driver, has been taken into custody by Jirania police. An investigation has been initiated following a GD entry at the police station.
Speaking to reporters, the victim’s younger brother said, “Like every day, my elder brother went out on his bike for work. Later, we received a call about the accident. By the time we reached the hospital, doctors informed us that he was no more.”
Police said further legal action would follow based on the investigation.
