Agartala: Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha today informed that the state government is planning to start courses in super-specialty and Master of Dental Surgery (MDS) soon in the state.
Dr. Saha said this while distributing offer of appointment letters to the Medical Officers at Pragya Bhavan today.
“We had a demand for specialist doctors but also faced a crisis. We had sought TPSC for over 170 specialist doctors but received only 45 candidates. We will give an advertisement again and by this time some more specialist doctors have passed, so we will fill the gap. I want to congratulate those who got the offer. Doctors are often soft targets. But under these circumstances, doctors are made to work for people and their service,” he said.
He added that the present state government is working for strengthening health infrastructure.
“Earlier we had seen there was a demand for engineers, then slowly the demand for medical professionals increased and now we have 400 seats for MBBS and 89 for PG in Tripura. We are trying to start courses in super-specialty and talks are underway with NMC. We have also received approval to increase seat capacity in government medical colleges by around 100 seats. In the health sector we are also increasing manpower, not only by giving offers to doctors but also to others,” he said.
“A doctor first has to clear NEET, then study MBBS, and after four years has to secure at least 50% to clear MBBS. They have to work very hard to become a doctor. We have also opened BDS with 50 seats and MDS will also be introduced. We have 50 seats for B.Sc. Nursing as well. There was a crisis of nursing staff but now we are working to fulfill the shortage. We are also working to set up more institutions. I want to tell the newly recruited doctors to carefully listen to patients’ problems and work on time. Doctors must work with responsibility. We are working to decrease the referral cases,” he added.
During the programme, Health Secretary Kiran Gitte, Health Director Dr. Tapan Majumder, NHM Mission Director Saju Wahid, and Additional Secretary Health Rajib Datta were present.
