₹45.43 Crore Disbursed to 2.9 Lakh Tripura Farmers Under 20th PM-KISAN Agartala, August 2:
As Prime Minister Narendra Modi released the 20th instalment of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme from Varanasi on Saturday, in Tripura a total of ₹45.43 crore was disbursed to 2,90,037 registered farmers through direct bank transfer.
Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha made this announcement during a programme held at the State Agriculture Research Station in AD Nagar. Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister Ratan Lal Nath was also present on the occasion.
Highlighting the inclusion of new beneficiaries, CM Saha stated that 77,143 individuals who recently received land titles (pattas) under the Forest Rights Act (FRA) have been registered as farmers and have received financial aid under PM-KISAN for the first time.
Reiterating the state government’s commitment to improving the agricultural sector, Saha informed that 2,06,742 soil health cards have already been distributed, with an additional 45,000 cards set to be issued this financial year.
He also announced the formation of 58 Farmers Producer Companies (FPCs), with the aim of establishing one FPC in each block.
Since the BJP-led government came to power, farm machinery worth ₹204.52 crore has been distributed among farmers at highly subsidized rate. Additionally, infrastructure development of 144 markets is underway at an estimated cost of ₹303.42 crore, with another 60 markets planned for future development.
The Chief Minister further emphasized the promotion of organic farming in Tripura, especially for crops like pineapples, scented rice, pepper, chilli, ginger, turmeric, lemon, and betel nut.
A total of 20,161 hectares have already been earmarked for organic farming, with 6,500 more hectares to be added. Natural farming practices are also being promoted across 5,550 hectares.
Dr. Saha asserted that Tripura’s GDP is largely agro-based, and the state currently holds the second position in per capita income among the northeastern states—indicating steady progress in the agricultural and economic sectors.
Nationwide, over 9.7 crore farmers received approximately ₹20,500 crore through the 20th PM-KISAN instalment, aimed at ensuring transparency and eliminating middlemen.
Launched in February 2019, the PM-KISAN scheme provides ₹6,000 annually to landholding farmers in three equal instalments through Aadhaar-seeded direct bank transfers. The scheme aims to support small and marginal farmers in meeting their input costs, ensuring crop health and sustainable yields while protecting them from debt dependency.
