Agartala, July 27:
Member of Parliament and former Chief Minister of Tripura Biplab Kumar Deb on Sunday asserted that in an alliance government, no single party’s ideology can dominate, and all partners must be willing to make compromises.
His remarks came in response to TIPRA Motha Party’s dissatisfaction over the alleged inaction of the state government regarding the identification and deportation of illegal immigrants in Tripura, and as per a directive from the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) two months ago.
“In an alliance government, not everything happens according to one’s own ideology or desires. Sacrifices are necessary on both sides. When a party enjoys an absolute majority, it can govern based on its full agenda. But in a coalition, both parties must contribute, sacrifice, and collaborate to move forward,” Deb stated.
Addressing the issue of illegal immigrants, particularly from Bangladesh, Myanmar, and Pakistan, Deb referred to the central government’s post Operation Sindoor, under which states have been directed to identify and push back illegal entrants. He emphasized that this process is already underway nationwide.
“Every sovereign nation enforces its own laws to protect its economy, sovereignty, and citizens. Even Indians illegally living in countries like the USA have been deported. It hurts, but those are their national laws. Similarly, India is not an open door where anyone can enter and settle,” Deb remarked strongly.
He further added, “There are legal routes to acquire citizenship, and under Narendra Modi’s leadership, many refugees from Pakistan and Bangladesh have been granted Indian citizenship lawfully by the Home Ministry. However, sneaking into our country illegally at night, harming our economy, and conspiring against our nation will not be tolerated.”
Slamming such unlawful migration, Deb stated, “This is Narendra Bhai Modi’s government. It will function in the interest of the nation, the people, and national security. We must detect and act against such threats—not glorify them.”
Responding to Pradyot Kishore Debbarma’s demand for a Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral rolls in Tripura, similar to the process undertaken in Bihar, Biplab Kumar Deb clarified that the matter falls entirely under the jurisdiction of the Election Commission of India, an autonomous constitutional body.
He asserted that the BJP-led central government has no authority to interfere in decisions made by the Commission.
The comments from the former CM come amid growing friction within the ruling BJP-TIPRA Motha alliance, with the latter expressing dissatisfaction over the pace of implementation of promises, particularly on tribal and security-related concerns.
