Agartala, July 25: Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha on Friday accused the previous Communist regime of attempting to erase the rich legacy of the royal family of Tripura, asserting that the BJP-led government is committed to preserving and promoting the state’s historical heritage.
Speaking at the foundation stone laying ceremony for the development of tourism infrastructure at the Kamalasagar Chaturdash Devta temple complex in Sepahijala district, Saha said, “They (CPIM) never wanted the history of the royal family to be remembered. But after the BJP came to power, we are restoring all aspects of the royal legacy.”
Highlighting the state’s tourism potential, Saha said Tripura is on the verge of a transformative shift in the tourism sector, with massive infrastructure projects underway.
He pointed out that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Tripura is making bold strides towards becoming a major tourist destination.
Referring to the recent laying of the foundation stone for the replicas of the 51 Shakti Peeths at Banduwar, the Chief Minister noted that the project aims to turn the site into a world-class pilgrimage and tourism hub.
Emphasizing the importance of infrastructure across all sectors—education, healthcare, sports, and tourism—Saha said the state budget was significantly increased from ₹27,000 crore to ₹34,000 crore, with ₹7,000 crore earmarked specifically for infrastructure development. “Without infrastructure, investment won’t come,” he added.
Saha also mentioned that besides central and state projects, Tripura is utilizing external-aided funding to boost development, including the tourism infrastructure project launched at Kamalasagar.
Along with Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury, local MLA Antara Sarkar Deb, and other dignitaries, the Chief Minister laid the foundation stone for tourism infrastructure works worth around ₹34 crore.
The project is expected to boost tourist footfall and generate employment opportunities, with the state targeting a 10 percent contribution to GDP from the tourism sector in the coming years.
