Agartala, July 23: A high-level delegation of the Tipra Motha Party, led by its founder Pradyot Kishore Debbarma, met with the full bench of the Election Commission of India (ECI) in New Delhi on Wednesday, pressing for a Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral rolls in Tripura.
The delegation, which included two Ministers from the Dr. Manik Saha-led BJP-Motha coalition government—Animesh Debbarma and Brishyaketu Debbarma—along with TTAADC Chief Executive Member Purna Chandra Jamatia, MLA Ranjit Debbarma, and other senior party leaders, held discussions with Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and Election Commissioners Dr. Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Dr. Vivek Joshi.
Addressing the media after the meeting, Pradyot Kishore Debbarma raised concerns over illegal migration in Tripura and the broader northeast region, warning that the presence of illegal voters poses a serious threat to the future of the indigenous population.
“If these illegal voters or infiltrators are not identified and removed, there will be no tomorrow for the next generation. That’s why we demand a Special Intensive Revision to safeguard our people,” he stated.
Debbarma welcomed the ECI’s response, stating, “The good news is that the Election Commission has assured us that the Special Intensive Revision will be conducted across the country, including Tripura.”
Commenting on the pending implementation of the Tiprasa Accord, Debbarma reiterated that the Tipra Motha Party had joined the state government with the sole aim of ensuring the Accord’s execution.
“If it is not implemented soon, we will have to rethink whether we should continue to remain part of this government,” he warned.
