Agartala, July 16: Tripura is taking bold strides toward becoming a leader in Artificial Intelligence (AI)-driven governance, with the state government actively preparing its workforce to harness the power of generative AI for smarter and faster decision-making.
In a significant move, the Directorate of Economics & Statistics (DES), Government of Tripura, organized a three-day training-cum-workshop titled “Generative AI for Impact: Smart Tools for Smarter Governance” at the Smart Training Hall in the IT Bhawan of state capital Agartala that came to an end on Wednesday.
The valedictory session was graced by Bikas Debbarma, Minister for Planning (Statistics) of Tripura, who underscored the transformative potential of AI in statistical planning and policy-making. He commended the department’s futuristic vision and urged all officials to become champions of digital transformation by continuously upgrading their skillsets.
The workshop brought together over 60 officials from DES Tripura and the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI), Government of India. Key dignitaries present at the launch included N.K. Santoshi, Director General (Central Statistics), MoSPI; Abhishek Chandra, Special Secretary, Planning (Statistics) Department, Tripura; and Anil Digambar Patil, DDG, NSO(FOD), MoSPI, Agartala.
The workshop focused on equipping government officials with the latest AI tools and techniques, emphasizing their practical application in governance.
From real-world demonstrations in AI-powered drafting, summarization, and forecasting using Python, to immersive sessions on prompt engineering and data interpretation, the training aimed to prepare Tripura’s administrative machinery for future-ready governance.
N.K. Santoshi applauded Tripura’s rapid adoption of AI and digital technologies, calling the state’s efforts “ahead of the curve.” He lauded DES Tripura for investing in capacity-building at a time when the transformative power of AI is being recognized globally.
Meantime, Special Secretary Abhishek Chandra highlighted the strategic role of generative AI in day-to-day governance, calling on officials to embrace innovation as a core governance tool rather than a supplementary skill.
He said that not only all government employees of Tripura rather the focus is to bring even employees from other state to participate in AI training here taking advantage of the state being among the lead.
The trainees and resource persons were also felicitated on the day.
With this initiative, Tripura has positioned itself as a frontrunner in integrating AI into governance, aiming for better planning, faster execution, and data-driven policy outcomes—paving the way for a more efficient and intelligent public administration system.
