Agartala, July 5: The Advisory Committee of Maharaja Bir Bikram (MBB) Airport held its biannual meeting on Saturday at the old terminal building conference hall in Agartala. The session was chaired by former Tripura Chief Minister and current MP of West Tripura, Biplab Kumar Deb, who also heads the Airport Advisory Committee.
During the meeting, Deb emphasised that the committee convenes twice a year to assess the operational status of the airport, resolve ongoing issues, and plan improvements. “While many challenges are resolved at the local level, unresolved matters are taken up with the Government of India for further action,” he stated.
Highlighting the strategic importance of the airport, Deb said, “After Guwahati, MBB Airport sees the highest number of flight operations in the Northeast. This makes it a crucial aviation hub for the region.”
Key topics discussed during the meeting included increasing the number of flights, enhancing passenger amenities, improving lighting facilities, and offering affordable space for commercial stalls inside the airport. The committee also explored ways to streamline services and improve the travel experience for passengers.
Airport Director K.C. Meena, West Tripura District Magistrate Dr. Vishal Kumar, Superintendent of Police Dr. Kiran Kumar K., and former MLA and advisory committee member Krishna Dhan Das were among the senior officials present.
Deb assured that all suggestions made by the committee members will be considered for implementation in collaboration with the Airports Authority of India (AAI). He reaffirmed the committee’s commitment to making MBB Airport a modern and passenger-friendly gateway for the Northeast.
The meeting concluded with a unanimous resolution to prioritise the airport’s infrastructural and service enhancements in the upcoming months.
