Belonia, June 22: With the slogan *“Stay away from drugs, keep your body and mind healthy,”* the South Tripura District Police took a commendable step towards building a drug-free society by organizing the *Run for Drugs-Free India* initiative on Sunday.
The event, aimed primarily at spreading awareness among the youth about the dangers of drug abuse, was flagged off from Brajendra Kishore Institution in Belonia by South Tripura Superintendent of Police Maurya Krishna C. He was accompanied by Additional SP Suman Majumder and other senior police officials.
The 5-kilometer awareness run witnessed enthusiastic participation from all walks of life, including school and college students, senior citizens, and personnel from the Traffic and Police departments. The route concluded at Jharjhari area, where a short prize distribution ceremony was held to acknowledge the efforts and spirit of the participants.
A total of six prizes were awarded — three each in the male and female categories for the top finishers. Additionally, two special awards were given to the youngest and oldest participants to recognize their unique contribution to the campaign.
Addressing the gathering, SP Maurya Krishna C emphasized the growing threat of drug addiction, particularly among the youth, and called upon families, communities, and institutions to remain vigilant and proactive. “Building a drug-free Tripura and India requires collective effort. Everyone must take responsibility to safeguard our future generations,” he stated.
