Gandacherra, June 19: Kishore Kumar Chakma, Vice-President of the Raima Valley Block Congress Committee, passed away on Thursday morning at Gomati District Hospital. He was 55. Chakma had been battling liver jaundice for several months.
A veteran Congress leader with over three decades of dedicated service, Chakma played a vital role in strengthening the party at the grassroots level in the Raima Valley region. Known for his unwavering commitment to the welfare of the common people, his leadership, humility, and organizational skills earned him wide respect both within the party and among the local population.
The news of his demise sent shockwaves through the Congress community in Tripura. A deep sense of grief prevailed among party workers, supporters, and residents of his native village. Later in the afternoon, Chakma’s mortal remains were brought to his residence in Lakshmipur village under the Gandacherra sub-division, where a steady stream of mourners paid their final respects.
Party workers draped his body with the Congress flag and offered floral tributes as a mark of honor. Among those present were Raima Valley Block Congress President Ranjit Tripura, Block Youth Congress President Badal Sarkar, Dhalai District Youth Congress President Rajiv Chakma, and senior local leaders including Manik Saha, Kartik Mondal, Kshitis Das, Biswajit Banik, and Barun Tripura.
Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) President Ashish Kumar Saha expressed deep sorrow over Chakma’s untimely demise. In a phone call to the bereaved family, he conveyed his condolences and assured them of the party’s support during this period of loss.
