Agartala: May 18: In a major success for the anti-narcotics campaign in Tripura, police from the Srinagar police station, under the leadership of Officer-in-Charge (OC) Dilip Debbarma, conducted a raid on Tuesday evening and seized a large quantity of illegal drugs. The operation, based on a tip-off from a confidential source, was carried out with support from the Tripura State Rifles (TSR) at Jamtali Muslim Para in the residence of one Liton Mia.
During the raid, the police team dug up a room in the house and recovered two Sintex tanks filled with dry cannabis. The total weight of the recovered contraband was approximately 100 kilograms, with an estimated market value of ₹12 lakh. Liton Mia, the homeowner, was arrested on the spot.
Following the seizure, Srinagar police registered a case against Liton Mia under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. He is currently undergoing intense interrogation, and further investigations are underway.
Upon receiving the news, the Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) of Amtali rushed to Srinagar police station to oversee the situation. Later on Tuesday night, while speaking to media, the SDPO confirmed the seizure of 100 kg of dry cannabis from the accused’s house. He also reiterated the police department’s commitment to the Tripura state government’s vision of a drug-free society.
Police authorities informed that Liton Mia would be produced before the court on Wednesday afternoon. Officials added that anti-drug operations across the region would continue with full force in the coming days to curb the spread of illegal narcotics and protect the youth from substance abuse.
