Agartala, June 15:
In a major drug bust, police in Tripura-Assam border Churaibari under North Tripura district, intercepted a mini truck and seized approximately 80,000 Yaba tablets valued at around ₹4 crore in the black market said a senior police official.
The seizure was made early Sunday morning based on a tip-off about narcotics being smuggled from Assam into Tripura.
The police stopped a small goods vehicle bearing registration number TR05 C1755 during routine naka checking at Churaibari and discovered the consignment of drugs packed in multiple packets.
Following the recovery, North Tripura Superintendent of Police Avinash Rai personally launched an investigation into the case.
SP Rai confirmed that the estimated value of the seized Yaba tablets is about ₹4 crore. The driver of the vehicle, identified as Sanjay Sahani, a resident of Churaibari, has been arrested in connection with the case.
He assured that police is working towards making Tripura drug free and the same police station seized around 1000 Kg marijuana during last month.
Police have registered a case under the NDPS Act and further investigation is underway to uncover the wider network involved in the drug smuggling operation.
