Agartala, June 12 – In a shocking turn of events, the decomposed body of 24-year-old Shariful Islam from Indranagar was discovered inside a deep freezer at a betel shop in Narayanpur, Gandachhara, on Wednesday. The gruesome murder, stemming from a love triangle, has sent shockwaves across Tripura.
Shariful, an electrician employed under the Smart City project, had been missing since June 8. According to police, he was lured out of his house that night by Dr. Dibakar Saha, a friend, under the pretext of giving him a gift. Shariful was taken to the residence of Joydeep Das in South Indranagar, where two others—Nabanita Das (25) and Animesh Yadav (21)—were already present.
West Tripura Superintendent of Police Dr. Kiran Kumar K. revealed that in the presence of these individuals, Shariful was suffocated to death by Dr. Dibakar Saha. Investigations confirmed that the motive behind the murder was a romantic entanglement. Shariful had been in a relationship with Nabanita Das for several years. However, she later grew close to Dr. Dibakar Saha, who allegedly planned the murder to eliminate Shariful.
On June 9, Dibakar bought a large trolley bag. The group then transported Shariful’s body from Agartala to Gandachhara the next day and hid it in a freezer at a betel shop owned by Dibakar’s father.
Following confessions during interrogation, police recovered the body and arrested six individuals involved in the crime—Dr. Dibakar Saha, his parents Dipak and Debika Saha, Joydeep Das, Animesh Yadav, and Nabanita Das.
A forensic team and local police have launched further investigations. The brutality and premeditation involved in the case have left the public deeply disturbed.
