Agartala, June 5: Tripura Transport and Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury on Thursday participated in an awareness programme under the Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan at Majlishpur in Jirania subdivision. Addressing the gathering, the minister highlighted the importance of the campaign in doubling farmers’ income through the adoption of modern, scientific agricultural practices.
As part of the event, Minister Chowdhury flagged off a Krishi Rath — a mobile agricultural outreach van — which will travel across the Majlishpur assembly constituency to deliver expert agricultural knowledge and services directly to farmers at their doorsteps.
Speaking at the event, the minister said, “The mega outreach campaign is a significant initiative that aims to directly engage with farmers ahead of the pre-Kharif season. In our state, teams of three expert agricultural scientists have been deployed across all 8 districts. These teams will visit 864 villages — 107 in each district — and interact with over 1.72 lakh farmers through training and awareness sessions.”
The Krishi Rath campaign is part of the broader 15-day nationwide initiative titled Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan, running from May 29 to June 12. The campaign is jointly organized by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), the Department of Agricultural Research and Education (DARE), and the Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare.
The initiative aims to boost awareness about scientific farming methods, promote sustainable agriculture, and ensure that farmers receive the necessary technical guidance ahead of the cropping season.
Minister Chowdhury lauded the central government’s efforts and urged local farmers to take full advantage of the campaign to enhance productivity and income through knowledge-driven agriculture.
