Agartala, June 1:
In response to relentless rainfall and worsening weather forecasts, the Tripura government has issued a Red Alert for all districts, signalling a high probability of heavy to extremely heavy rainfall in several areas.
The announcement was made by Revenue Department Secretary Brijesh Pandey during a press conference at the State Secretariat on Sunday evening.
Pandey informed that 60 relief camps have been opened across the affected districts — including 48 in West Tripura, three each in Khowai and Unakoti, and six in North Tripura — currently sheltering around 2,800 families and approximately 10,600 individuals.
West Tripura district has emerged as the worst-hit, witnessing intense downpours and gusty winds. The Howrah River, a vital waterbody passing through the capital, is reportedly flowing above the danger mark at . Authorities are vigilantly monitoring water levels to prevent further disaster.
To tackle the crisis, 14 rescue teams have been deployed across the state, with 11 stationed in West Tripura and three in Unakoti. The rescue efforts are being carried out by personnel from the NDRF, SDRF, Assam Rifles, Fire & Emergency Services, Civil Defence, Aapda Mitra, and the Bharat Scouts and Guides.
Revenue Secretary Pandey said that Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha is continuously reviewing the flood situation. Earlier in the day, the Chief Minister visited flood-hit areas in Agartala along with Rajya Sabha MP Rajib Bhattacharjee, AMC Mayor Dipak Majumder, senior government officials including the DM & Collector and SP of West Tripura.
During the visit, Dr. Saha interacted with residents taking shelter in relief camps, heard their grievances, and assured them of the government’s full support and swift relief response.
Urging people not to panic, Pandey appealed to citizens to stay away from rivers and low-lying areas and strictly adhere to evacuation and safety advisories issued by local administrations.
“The state government is fully committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of all citizens and is actively coordinating with all relevant departments for relief, restoration, and risk mitigation,” Pandey stated.
West Tripura District Magistrate Vishal Kumar and officials from the State Emergency Operation Centre were also present during the media briefing.

Pandey informed this in the Secretariat on Sunday evening adding that a total of 60 relief camps (West Tripura – 48, Khowai-3, Unakoti-3, North Tripura-6) have been opened across affected districts, sheltering around 2,800 families and around 10,600 inmates.
The Revenue Secretary said that the worst flood affected is the West Tripura district which recorded heavy rainfall accompanied by gusty winds and one of the important river Howrah flowing at 10.91 meters at 5 PM, which is above the danger level, however, the authorities are closely monitoring river levels to take necessary preventive measures.
He informed that total 14 rescue teams have been deployed at different places including 11in West Tripura and three in Unakoti Districts.
These rescue operations are being conducted by the NDRF, SDRF, Assam Rifles, Fire & Emergency Services, Civil Defence / Aapda Mitra/ Bharat Scouts and Guides.
