Agartala, May 31: Two youths from Kailashahar in Unakoti district of Tripura have gone missing during a trip to Sikkim since last two days.
Their vehicle fell into a river while traveling through the hills and reportedly the accident occurred on the way from Sikkim’s capital Gangtok to Lachung.
Among the 11 tourists in the ill fated vehicle were also two youths from Kailashahar — Swapnonil Deb (26) and Debjyoti Deb (25).
On Saturday, Tripura’s Leader of the Opposition Jitendra Chaudhury met Debjyoti Deb’s family in Kailashahar.
Speaking to reporters Chaudhury said that in connection to the missing youths he have spoken with a former MP of Sikkim and who informed that the Sikkim administration has been conducting rescue operations. So far, three individuals have been rescued alongwith the car — two are undergoing treatment, and one has reportedly died. While the remaining eight including the two youths from Kailashahar, are still missing. Rescue operations are ongoing but at present heavy rainfall is going on there which is hampering the search operation.
