Agartala, May 31: In a strong show of protest against the alleged misbehavior of Gomati District Magistrate Tarit Kanti Chakma towards Tipra Motha supremo Pradyot Kishore Debbarma, the party’s youth wing, Youth Tipra Federation (YTF), has called for the shutdown of all government offices in Gomati district on June 2.
Announcing the agitation at a press conference in Agartala on Saturday, YTF president Suraj Debbarma said the party had earlier given the state government a four-day ultimatum (starting May 26) to take action against the said DM, but no substantial steps have been taken.
“The DM refused to meet our leader Pradyot Kishore Debbarma and did not respond to his calls. This is not just an insult to our leader but to the entire Tiprasa community. If no action is taken, we will be forced to escalate our protest across all eight districts of Tripura,” said Suraj Debbarma.
He warned that transferring the DM to another district won’t solve the issue and urged Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha to take serious action. “If this is how a royal scion and a popular leader is treated, one can only imagine how common people are dealt with,” he added.
Earlier this week, a Tipra Motha delegation led by MoS Brishyaketu Debbarma and TTAADC CEM Purna Chandra Jamatia met the Chief Minister and Chief Secretary demanding action.
In response, CM Manik Saha stated that he had directed Chief Secretary J.K. Sinha to inquire into the matter and submit a report. “Whatever happened, we will ensure no one’s dignity is compromised. The incident may have stemmed from a communication gap,” the Chief Minister told reporters.
The controversy began when Pradyot Kishore Debbarma, reportedly visited the DM’s residence and was denied a meeting. He was also allegedly earlier blocked by the DM when he attempted to call.
